Dr. Arun Karpur

Dr. Arun Karpur, MBBS, MPH, currently serves as Research Director/CO-PI for a multi-million dollar initiative called the NY State PROMISE project and as a Research Faculty at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations in the Employment & Disability Institute.

Dr. Karpur’s research spans across the areas of:

  1. Improving post-school employment and educational outcomes transition-age youth with disabilities
  2. Examining causes of health disparities and developing interventions to improve quality of preventive care among people with disabilities, and
  3. Examining strategies and programs aimed to reduce poverty and improve livelihood opportunities and community inclusion of people with disabilities in developing countries.

Dr. Karpur also serves as the India faculty-lead at Cornell for their Global Service Learning Program and serves on the committee of International Programs at the ILR School. Dr. Karpur specializes in quantitative methods in conducting large scale rigorous program evaluation and public policy research using primary data collection as well as analysis of extant large data bases. His works have been published in several journals in special education, career development, healthcare and international rehabilitation. Dr. Karpur’s work has been funded through various US and international organizations including the World Bank.

He is also appointed as the technical advisor to a public policy research institute in India – called the Grassroots Research And Advocacy Movement (GRAAM) and has served on national committees on healthcare reform and workforce development in the U.S.

Dr. Karpur received his training as a medical doctor from Mysore Medical College in Karnataka and as an epidemiologist from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL.
