Move It to Lose It
“Move It to Lose It” (MITLI) is a unique and innovative childhood obesity prevention program, which highlights high-energy dance, like Bhangra and Hip-Hop, as a healthy addition to traditional dieting and weight loss. MITLI is a 6-week physical activity and nutrition intervention for elementary school-aged children. Up to 25 children per session are recruited from a school to participate in a weekly after school program. The 60-minute class incorporates high intensity dance, nutrition education, and instruction on the role of these in the prevention of obesity. The effectiveness of this program is evaluated by \enrollment, attendance, and retention of the children in MITLI classes. A pre- and post-test questionnaire is administered to evaluate increases in knowledge about obesity and the role of physical activity and nutrition in fighting this national epidemic.
